Why Black Americans are leaving America and coming to Costa Rica.

Living in Costa Rica for the past few months has shed light on why many Black Americans are choosing to leave the United States and make this vibrant country their new home. The sense of community and acceptance found here is truly remarkable.

One of the first things I noticed is the warmth and authenticity of the Black immigrants I've encountered in Costa Rica. They are friendly, genuine, and deep thinkers - my kind of people. In addition to them, there are also local Afro-Latinas, Jamaicans, and Caribbean individuals who contribute to the rich cultural tapestry of this place. They embody kindness and hospitality, always ready to lend a helping hand.

While colorism is a reality we face, it's heartening to see that even darker-toned natives experience it and thus extend empathy and support to us. Unlike the racial inequities deeply rooted in America and South America due to the legacy of colonization, here in Costa Rica, there is a sense of safety and security that is truly liberating.

The absence of police violence, vigilante attacks, or systemic oppression against Black people is a stark contrast to the realities faced back in the States. In Costa Rica, we can live without fear, unite with one another, and move freely without the threat of discrimination or harm. This newfound sense of freedom and unity is why Black Americans are choosing Costa Rica - a place where we can thrive, belong, and truly be ourselves. Costa Rica has become a beacon of hope and opportunity for many of us, and we are embracing it with open arms. 🌴🤍 #BlackExpats #CostaRicaLiving #UnityAndFreedom
